Homemade Shea Butter moisturizer for Dry Skin

This was requested by a friend of mine. I hope this will be helpful to your skin as it is to mine. I have seen a huge difference in the way my skin looks and most of the products i use for my skin nowadays are 100% natural and made at home. It is the best solution for me because i have very sensitive skin and can react to some commercial skin care products out there.I am not a dermatologist, I have been able to find what works for me through alot of research and trials.

African Shea butter is yelowy or ivory coloured natural fat extracted from the nuts of the Shea Karite tree usually found in West Africa.

100% pure natural Shea butter is rich in vitamin A, E, F and fatty acids. It is great for improving skin conditions including blemishes, wrinkles, eczema, chapped lips, dermatitis, skin alergies, insect bites, sunburns, dry skin, frostbites etc ....

  • The fatty acids in Shea Butter helps in maintaining the skin's moisture and elasticity. These lipids work on the epidermal cells and maintain a good balance.
  • The Vitamins A and E found in Shea butter help in keeping the skin supple and healthy.
  • Vitamin F works as a rejuvenator. Rough and chapped skin is soothed and healed.
The moisturizers in Shea Butter are the same moisturizers produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin.
Shea butter penetrates the skin easily and does not clog the pores. It is usually one of the many ingredients used in a lot of good commercial moisturizers i.e Embroylisse, L'Occitane, Burts Bees, Cetaphil, Bobbi Brown Face Base etc... Homemade shea butter moisturizers are as good as the commercial moisturizers or even better because it is 100% natural. And also commercial skin moisturizers may contain chemicals that may not be good for the skin in the long run.

It is very easy to make shea butter moisturizer at home, most of the ingredients you need to make the moisturizer can be found in any health food store and the shea butter can be bought online eg Amazon.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of olive oil
  • 6g of unrefined Shea Butter
  • 5 drops of Sage essential oil
  • 3 drops of Tee Tree essential oil
  • 3 drops of Pepperment oil
  • 1/3 cup of Spring or Rose water
  • 2 tsp of Vitamin E oil (optional)

Direction

Put the Shea Butter, olive oil, pepperment oil and vitamin E oil into a bowl and mix with a mixer until its smooth and lump free. Now very sowly add Rose or Spring water into the mixture, keep mixing until oil and water are properly intergrated and fluffy. Then add all the essential oils into the mixture. Put the mixture into an air tight container and store in a cool place.

The mixture is very light, soft and it will have a hydrating effect on the skin. It leaves the skin soft throughout the day and also improves the skin tone. If you have oily skin it is best to use it at Night time and use a light moisturizer during the day.

I hope this was helpful and if you try it tell me how it goes, because it works for me, till next time Stay Blessed xoxo
